Hossein Boustani Hezarani is a dental surgeon and AI researcher working at the intersection of medicine, computer vision and diagnostic innovation. With a background that spans clinical practice and machine learning, his work focuses on technology-driven diagnostics and intelligent treatment planning in oral healthcare.
He founded Decadentry as an independent platform for exploring how artificial intelligence and dentistry meet in real-world research, education and collaborative projects. His aim is to improve access to early detection, reduce diagnostic errors and support better patient care with tools such as convolutional neural networks and real-time detection models.
Research focus
His interests sit at the convergence of dental radiology, AI-driven clinical decision support and smart oral diagnostics:
- Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for disease classification
- YOLO-based real-time detection and segmentation of intraoral images
- Generative AI for prosthetic and aesthetic planning
- Federated learning and privacy-preserving data modelling in healthcare
- Explainable AI (XAI) for transparent clinical decision-making
He is currently building an AI-assisted diagnostic tool for real-time detection of oral pathologies, and maintains open-source dental software including OdontoAge, DentRx and OraCalm (see publications).

- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) — Azerbaijan Medical University. Graduated with honours, with a focus on diagnostic radiology, oral pathology and digital prosthodontics.

- Face Art Dental & Cosmetic Clinic, Baku — aesthetic dentistry, surgical assisting, and applying CNNs to clinical datasets.
